"There's Got To Be A Morning After"

Did you wake up this morning with your weight loss plans capsized like the Poseidon? Did you feel more like Shelley Winters, squeezed into her formal gown, than your pre-Easter self? What happened?

Ah, the "best laid plans of mice and men!" You had such good intentions! You planned it all out. You were going to eat sensibly and then go for a three mile walk but the spiral ham was so tasty; the deviled eggs possessed by Satan himself, not to mention the Peeps, jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, Mom's homemade cookies, the Easter Bread.... need I go on?

So what do you do now? Throw in the towel? Start again next January 1st? Spend the day naked in leftovers? (I had to add the naked part to get your attention.) Or do you channel your best Maureen McGovern....

"There's got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Let's keep on looking for the light

Oh, can't you see the morning after?
It's waiting right outside the storm
Why don't we cross the bridge together
And find a place that's safe and warm?

There's got to be a morning after
We're moving closer to the shore
I know we'll be there by tomorrow
And we'll escape the darkness
We won't be searching anymore"

Belt that song, at the top of your lungs, and then climb BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN.

Say to yourself, "What's done is done!" and over the next three days:
1. Cut back on your calories
2. Exercise a little more - try for 10,000 steps a day/5 miles of walking
3. Eat three meals a day with NO SNACKS
4. NO PIZZA/WINGS/Lay off all the bread!!
5. Don't weigh yourself over and over again, striking your breast each time, keening mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Instead pick one day (this Thursday for the Syracuse Pray it Off Group) or for you others, pick next Monday) to weigh-in.
6. Don't say, "I'll get back on track when the leftovers are gone!! GET RID OF THEM. Send home with relatives - send candy to school for your kids class, take candy to a Nursing Facility, give food to a food pantry. Be creative!

What do you do on Easter Monday AKA "The Morning After?" You begin again, Finnegan!!

  1. The Mornin After - not so bad for me - - thank God, no big family gathering. A small slice of ham, some scalloped potatoes and asparagus and water to drink - - - not bad for din-din - - huh. But, no exercise. Had 2 jelly beans, 1 chocolate jelly bean. Supper - ham sand. on dark rye w/ must.; 2 cups of black coffee and a sm piece of pound cake. A sm solid chocolate cross from my sister - who always complains about my weight. But no exercise; just dishes. But I too need to get back in the saddle again; usually don't eat candy & usually walk more. So mornin after wasn't so bad, but w/o the movement I generally did, not too energetic.
Excellent blog, as always, especially for those who feasted yesterday. Never put off for a wk, a month or 6 months what we can start doing the next day. So, we screw up one day with the family and we rejoice with the Risen Lord and celebrate - they all did, so us faithful followers of Pray It Off - it time to get back into the Saddle the day after and begin our journey again, or pick it up where we left off toward our new life.
El - have a good day and keep these great blogs a-coming - they are so inspiring for me and gives me something to thing about all day. Luv ya my friend, Char

  4. I did well at the first parent's house, but it gets harder and harder with each house we visit (My husband and I have 7 parents between us). So much food to look at in one day.

  8. Keep up the good work!It takes a solemn determination to overcome ourselves and God is so generous in giving us the graces to do it. You have a great purpose in life and will continue to be a beacon of hope for those despairing of ever getting their weight under control. I'll add you to my prayer list.
